First Financial Bank awards grants

Business roundup

Arts Place has received a grant for its capital campaign.

First Financial Bank announced this week that it has provided a total of $32,000 in grants to three organizations, including Arts Place.

Other recipients were East Central Indiana Regional Partnership, which includes Jay County, and Communities in Schools of Wayne County.

“This campaign is an outstanding example of our intent to be a positive influence, and to help our clients and communities thrive,” said First Financial Bank president and CEO Archie Brown in a press release. “Our support for these organizations will lift our cities and towns and help our neighbors grow and prosper.”

The funding for Arts Place will go toward its capital campaign. Funds from that campaign have already been used to renovate and expand the Jay County Campus of Arts Place. Remaining goals to be completed include new lighting and other equipment in Hall-Moser Theatre.

LifeStream launches

LifeStream Services announced Monday that it has launched its new website.

The site — lifestreaminc.org — includes new features such as information on programs and services available to those who identify as an older adult, caregiver or service provider. LifeStream had announced plans for the new website along with other changes in March.

“It has been several years since our website has undergone a redesign, so it was perfect timing to continue our work with Intersection after our rebrand to start working on a new website,” said LifeStream marketing manager Hannah Dunckel in a press release. “We hope visitors to the site will find the new look welcoming and will be able to access the information they need easily and efficiently.”

I&M inspecting

Indiana Michigan Power is conducting aerial inspections of high-voltage transmission lines to look for damage from recent storms and high winds.

The lines will be inspected by helicopter in various regions, including east central Indiana. Flights will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Customers with questions or concerns should call (800) 311-4634.

Indiana Michigan Power also announced this week that it gave Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance a $10,000 grant to prepare sites for future business growth.

“I&M is committed to helping our local communities achieve their growth objectives and improve areas prime for new business,” said Ashley Savieo, director of economic and business development for American Electric Power (I&M’s parent company) in a press release.

Chancellor selected

Ivy Tech Community College on Wednesday announced that it has selected Walter McCollum as chancellor of its Richmond location.

McCollum, who will step into the role Jan. 31, previously served as vice president and senior associate vice provost for Miami Dade College Online. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he has worked as an administrator at post-secondary institutions for more than 15 years.

“McCollum is a strong leader and proven innovator,” Ivy Tech president Sue Ellspermann said in a press release. “I fully expect he will ‘hit the ground running and work closely with K-12, employer, higher education and community leaders to ensure Ivy Tech is meeting the needs of the Richmond service area.”

Going to space

A Purdue University professor Steven Collicott was selected for an award through NASA’s Flight Opportunities program, giving him the chance to fly into suborbital space with Virgin Galactic while conducting a zero-gravity experiment.

Collicott was the only winner selected in this round. He will conduct an experiment exploring how a liquid that wets a solid surface less than perfectly moves in an awkward stick-slip process across that solid surface in weightlessness.

“The sudden news that I now get to fly into suborbital space to work in an amazing new zero-gravity laboratory aboard Virgin Galactic is a thrill beyond words,” Collicott said in a press release.
