Public invited
Indiana legislators have invited the public attend a series of public meetings in August to provide feedback on the state’s redistricting process.
Redistricting for the U.S. House of Representatives, Indiana Senate and Indiana House of Representatives is required every 10 years. Legislators are expected to return to the statehouse in September to redraw the districts.
The meetings that are closest to Jay County are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 6 at the Ivy Tech campus in Anderson, 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 7 at the Ivy Tech campus in Fort Wayne and 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 11 at the statehouse.
“We look forward to hosting these important meetings across the state to hear directly from the public on Indiana's redistricting process,” said State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Osceola), who will chair redistricting meetings in the northern part of the state.
Changing lanes
An Auburn man’s vehicle struck another while he changed lanes on Meridian Street about 5:18 p.m. Thursday.
John E. Kenens, 63, later told Portland Police Department he was driving a 2017 Nissan Titan south and attempting to change lanes before the intersection with Water Street. Kenens didn’t notice the 2013 Buick Verano, driven by Mia M. Stolz, beside him, and sideswiped the vehicle.
Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Rear crash
A Connecticut man’s vehicle crashed into the back of a Berne man’s vehicle on U.S. 27 about 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
Brian J. Ash, 49, Mystic, was driving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler north on the highway near county road 400 North. Ash crashed his vehicle into the back of a 2010 Ford Flex, driven by 26-year-old Shanti B. Inniger, stopped at the construction light.
Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer hit
A Pennville man’s vehicle struck a deer on Balbec Road about 5:10 p.m. Thursday.
Gregory L. Bouse, 51, was driving a 2007 Jeep Compass west on the road near county road 1050 West when a deer ran into his path. He was unable to avoid the collision, causing damage estimated less than $1,000.
