Capsule reports
Tires slashed
A Portland resident reported slashed tires Monday.
Yarexi Ortiz called Jay County Sheriff’s Office to report her tires had been cut on her Chevrolet Cruz while she was visiting a friend at the residence at 4046 E. 300 South.
Failure to yield
A Bluffton man failed to yield at an intersection causing a collision on Indiana 1 about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Tomas C. Hernandez, 28, was driving south on the highway when he came to the intersection with Indiana 18. Across from him, driving north on Indiana 1, was Jordan D. Arnold, 23, of Muncie. Arnold had the right of way, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, so he proceeded to continue north on the highway.
Hernandez did not wait and began turning east onto Indiana 18. His 2006 BMW 330Ci collided with Arnold’s 2019 Ford Ranger, causing between $25,000 and $50,000 in estimated damage.
Both vehicles were towed. Hernandez did not have a driver’s license at the time of the accident and was issued a citation.
Backing accident
A Portland man backed into a parked vehicle at Circle K South and tried leaving the scene about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Douglas D. Lewis, 72, backed his 2000 Ford Ranger out of his parking spot at 723 S. Meridian St. and later told Portland Police he was unaware he hit the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado behind him.
The Silverado is registered to CenturyTel Service Group LLC, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Damage is estimated less than $1,000.
Walmart accident
A Redkey man backed his truck into a Farmland man’s vehicle about 2:52 p.m. Tuesday.
Timothy A. Croyle, 73, told Portland Police he was driving his 2006 Chrysler 300M north in the lot at 950 W. Votaw St. and stopped so another vehicle could back out of its spot. That’s when Benny C. Stephenson, 76, backed his 2017 Ford F150 into Croyle’s vehicle. Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
