MUNCIE — The Patriots are on a bit of a roll.
Jay County High School’s girls tennis team shut out the Muncie Central Bearcats on Wednesday for a 5-0 victory.
It marked the second consecutive win for Jay County (7-3), the third in four matches and fourth in its last six.
Lyric Garringer and Kierston Blunk were hardly challenged in their respective singles matches. Garringer got a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, while Blunk grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
Grace Brewster won the first set of her No. 1 singles contest 6-3 before dropping the second by the same score. She rebounded to win the third, 6-1, for the three-set victory.
Jay County’s doubles teams both won by 6-0, 6-1 margins. Madison Dirksen and Rachel Muhlekamp were victorious at No. 1 doubles, while Lilly Hedges and Holly Hemmelgarn came out on top at No. 2 doubles.
In junior varsity action, Brenna Haines (8-0) and Courtney Benter (8-0) both won their respective singles matches. Heaven Hambrock and Chelsea Blankenship teamed for an 8-0 doubles victory, while Kaylee Zimmerman and Melana Zimmerman earned an 8-0 doubles win. Allison Byrum and Paulina Esquivel teamed for an 8-2 win.
Jay County will look for its third straight win as it hosts Allen County Athletic Conference rival Adams Central at 5 p.m. tonight.
