Drug possession
Multiple people were sentenced to serve time recently after pleading guilty in Jay courts to drug possession.
Alissa L. Bunch, 27, Portland, was sentenced to four years in Indiana Department of Correction after pleading guilty in Jay Circuit Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. She was given credit for time served since March 21, 2020, assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee. The court recommended Bunch for purposeful incarceration, meaning after she completes a substance abuse treatment program, it will consider modifying her sentence.
Derrick L. Johnson, 38, 121 W. High St., Redkey, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, in Jay Superior Court. He was sentenced to 240 days in Jay County Jail and given 236 days credit for time served. He was fined $25, assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee. As part of his plea agreement, a Level 6 felony charge for unlawful possession of a syringe and a Class A misdemeanor charge for resisting law enforcement were dismissed.
Cody R. Bellis, 27, 2284 W. Indiana 26, Portland, pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. Bellis was sentenced to 180 days in Jay County Jail and given 136 days credit for time served. He was fined $25, assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee. As part of his plea agreement, the following charges were dismissed: a Level 6 felony for possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony for unlawful possession of a syringe and a Class C misdemeanor for possession of paraphernalia.
Nicholas S. Banter, 37, 325 East High St., Montpelier, pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 256 days suspended and given 256 days credit for time served. Banter was fined $25, assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee. He was placed on probation for 109 days and ordered to submit an evaluation within 30 days for substance abuse counseling. As part of his plea agreement, a Level 6 felony charge for unlawful possession of a syringe and a Class C misdemeanor charge for possession of paraphernalia were dismissed.
Dustin L. Louck, 42, 2400 North Tibbs, Indianapolis, pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail and given 50 days credit for time served. He will serve the remainder of his sentence on house arrest. Louck was fined $25, assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drub abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee. As part of his plea agreement, a Level 6 felony charge for unlawful possession of a syringe and a Class A misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license were both dismissed.
Zachary M. Hill, 51, 202 N. Meridian St., Portland, pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to 365 days in Jay County Jail with all but 184 days suspended and given 184 days credit for time served. Hill was assessed $185 in court costs, ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee and placed on probation for 181 days. Hill was also ordered to submit an evaluation within 30 days of his sentencing for substance abuse counseling.
Rita K. Micheau, 54, 1958 S. 825 W., Portland, pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. She was sentenced to three years in Indiana Department of Correction and given credit for time served from Jan. 9 to Jan. 31. Micheau was assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee. As part of her plea agreement, a Class C misdemeanor charge for possession of paraphernalia was dismissed.
Jesse W. Steed, 29, 914 W. Water St., Portland, pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. He was sentenced to five years in Indiana Department of Correction and given credit for two days and time served since Jan. 13. Steed was recommended for purposeful incarceration, and upon completion of a substance abuse treatment program, the court will consider modifying his sentence. He was assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee.
Shannon M. Morgan, 36, 701 S. Western Ave., Portland, pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. He was sentenced to three years in Indiana Department of Correction and given credit time served from May 25 to May 28 and since Sept. 30. Morgan was fined $1, assessed $185 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee.
