Together they helped the Patriots win the third of their six consecutive sectional championships in 2018.

Vivienne Kunkler, Alex Bader and Eliza Bader were back in the same pool on Saturday.

Three Jay County High School graduates competed in the Indiana Intercollegiates on Saturday at Purdue University.

Alex Bader, a Ball State junior and 2018 JCHS graduate, had the best individual finish of the former Patriots. She was fourth in both the 100-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke races. She had times of 1 minute, 0.18 seconds, and 1:05.09, respectively.

Bader joined Hannah Jones, Shelby Crist and Apsara Sakbun for runner-up in the 200 medley relay. She had a time of 29.56 seconds in her breaststroke leg.

Kunkler, a 2019 JCHS graduate and Bethel University junior, was 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.07) and 42nd in the 50 freestyle (27.07). She handled the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay that was 12th. She had a split of 27.8 seconds in the breaststroke leg.

Ball State freshman and 2021 JCHS graduate Eliza Bader made her collegiate debut by taking 13th in the 50 freestyle (25.02) and 18th in the 100 butterfly (59.84). The younger Bader anchored the 200 freestyle B relay that was seventh. She had a split of 25 seconds.



Anhely Montes

Jay County – 2020


Scored the first goal of her career for the Anderson University women’s soccer team on Sunday in a 5-2 victory against Bluffton.

The sophomore came off the bench and had three shots, one of which went for an unassisted goal in the 45th minute. The goal gave the Ravens (6-5-2) a 2-0 lead, which they carried into halftime.

On Wednesday, Montes had an assist as Anderson defeated Manchester 4-0. She also had two shots.

Paige Fortkamp

Had two more matches of double-digit kills for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team.

She finished with 11 kills and two blocks on Wednesday in a sweep of Goshen, a match after recording 10 kills in a 3-0 loss to Bethel. She also notched four digs. On Friday, the freshman had nine kills in a 3-0 setback to Marian.

Fortkamp has 335 total kills this season for the Cougars (6-21, 4-12 Crossroads League), which ranks her 11th in the nation.



Collin Haines

Jay County – 2018


Led the Indiana University-South Bend men’s golf team as it competed in the CCAC Cup on Monday and Tuesday at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Illinois.

Haines shot 81 on the first day, which was 20th, and he climbed two spots to 18 after shooting 75 on the second day for a tournament total of 156.

The Titans had a team total of 650 for sixth out of 10 teams. Roosevelt University won with 606.



Travis Sutter

Competed for the Ohio Northern University cross country team in the Oberlin Rumble on Saturday.

The senior had a time of 28 minutes, 8.8 seconds, in the 8K race to finish 128th overall. He was the eighth-best runner for the Polar Bears, who scored 336 points for 11th out of 35 teams.



Will Homan

Fort Rec. – 2018


Played for the University of Saint Francis football team in a 56-10 loss to No. 14 Marian Knights on Saturday.

The redshirt junior had 10 carries for 27 yards, including a 12-yard run.

He also caught two passes for seven yards in the loss for the Cougars (2-3).



Ethan Theurer

Jay County – 2018


Contributed defensively to the University of Saint Francis football team in its 56-10 loss on Saturday to the 14th-ranked Marian Knights.

Theurer finished with two tackles.



Nick Hayden

Jay County – 2017


Competed for the Indiana University-South Bend men’s golf team in the CCAC Cup.

After day one, Hayden shot 79, which was 13th overall. He shot 87 on the second day, slipping into a tie for 32nd with his score of 166.
