Ivy Tech ready to launch

A new program is celebrating its launch next week.

Ivy Tech Community College will hold a grand opening for its new Career Coaching and Employer Connections program from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The event will be live-streamed through the IvyEvents app. (Participants in the virtual event will have the chance to win two tickets to the Indianapolis Colts versus Tennessee Titans game Oct. 17.) All 19 Ivy Tech campuses will host in-person celebrations.

The new program is intended to bring together career development and employer outreach in an effort to meet workforce needs. It will provide career coaching and career development portfolio services as well as offering a “work and learn” experience to help students develop relationships with employers.

New VP named

Meridian Health Services announced this week that it has appointed Jennifer Henderson as its new vice president of primary care.

Henderson, a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University who went on to earn a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Phoenix, has worked for Meridian for about a decade. She has been regional manager of primary care for Delaware County.

“Jennifer has been and continues to be a valued executive working diligently to expand and enhance our primary care divisions, it’s only natural she be elevated to a position she has worked hard to attain,” said Hank Milius, president and CEO of Meridian Health Services, in a press release. “Her passion for patient care and exceptional, integrated care continues Meridian’s mission in ‘whole-person’ health.”

Reid receives

Reid Health this week received the American Heart Association's GoldPlus Get With The Guidelines Stroke Quality Achievement Award, was recognized by a special committee of the American College of Surgeons resulting in a re-verification of the health system's status as a Level III trauma center and had its Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs in Richmond and Connersville certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

The Get With the Guidelines award was developed to assist healthcare professionals to provide the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treating stroke patients. The consultation/verification program promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide not only the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, and the cardiac and pulmonary certifications required documentation of care plans, emergency protocols, and practice protocols as well as 12 months of recorded performance measures and quarterly staff training and testing.

Not employed

Indiana’s largest hospital system says more than 100 workers are no longer employed with the health network after they did not comply with its mandate for all employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the Associated Press reported.

Indiana University Health said Thursday that 125 employees had departed from the hospital system after a two-week unpaid suspension period that ended Sept. 14.

Officials did not say whether those workers quit or were fired, saying in a statement that they “chose not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and have left the organization.”

IU Health did not provide details on what positions were affected. The 125 former employees were a small percentage of IU Health’s work force of about 36,000.

Invenergy closes

Renewable energy firm Invenergy announced this week that it has completed construction financing for its Cardal Transmission Project in Uruguay.

The company, which is planning a solar facility in northwest Jay County, will construct about 45 miles of new high-voltage transmission lines and addition infrastructure. Construction started in July and the project is expected to be operational by early 2023.

“We will leverage our expertise in high voltage transmission development and construction to lead the Cardal Transmission project to completion,” said Invenergy executive vice president of transmission Shashank Sane in a press release. “We are proud to be expanding our investment in Uruguay while growing the global Invenergy Transmission portfolio.”
