FORT WAYNE — Zach Tanner came to play.

A pair of home runs sparked the Rockets’ offense and lifted them to victory.

Tanner’s home runs powered the Portland Rockets to a 12-8 win over the Fort Wayne Renegades on Wednesday night.

Jared Holly walked in the top of the third before Tanner’s first home run opened the scoring for the Rockets. Three more Rockets walked to load the bases before Garrison Brege was hit by a pitch and Magnuss Lee walked to score two more runs in the inning.

The Renegades answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning before Tanner hit his second home run in the fourth to give the Rockets a 5-3 lead.

Tanner also hit an RBI-single in a three-run sixth inning to extend the lead.

Trevor Sheets earned the win for the Rockets, throwing 105 pitches through 4 ? innings where he gave up five runs. Crosby Heniser finished the game, throwing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.



Hit parade

VERSAILLES, Ohio — The Fort Recovery ACME baseball team smashed the baseball against the Versailles Tigers for a 14-3 win on Wednesday.

Four singles and two doubles fueled a six-run first inning.

A Troy Homan triple and a Caden Grisez single tacked two more runs onto the Indians’ lead before they exploded for another six runs in the sixth inning.

The Indians had 19 hits in the ballgame, four from Reece Wendel and three from Homan and Grisez. Wendel and Alex Gaerke both had two doubles in the game. Grisez also led the Indians with three RBIs.

Grisez went the distance on the mound for the Indians, only allowing three runs on three hits while striking eight batters out.

Lane Bergman and Ben Subler had the only hits for the Tigers, Bergman with an RBI-triple in the fifth and Subler with a single that knocked in a run.



Ringing victory

Wings and Rings of Portland Junior League Rookie softball beat Bizy Dips 17-4 on Wednesday.

Nine of Wings and Rings’ players were perfect from the plate, eight of them going 3-for-3 in the game.

All three of Emme Theurer’s hits were triples while two of Carsyn Guggenbiller and Kierstyn White’s hits were triples.

Kendall Evans also added a triple, as well as a double and a single.

Lucy Locke, Evans, Guggenbiller, Theurer and White all scored three runs in the game.

Other players who were perfect from the plate include Brooklyn Evans, Hayden Guggenbiller, Maddie Theurer and Hadleigh Walker.
