Join in National Prevention week

Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition is celebrating National Prevention Week.

The annual celebration hosted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is made to increase public awareness and action around mental and substance misuse disorders.

Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition is teaming with Bizy Dips and Living in Joy to host an alcohol-free happy hour from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at John Jay Center for Learning.

It’s also inviting the community to wear the color red Friday to show their support for prevention and the organization, asking those who participate to post a picture on social media and tag them.

MusicWorks recitals

MusicWorks at Arts Place has a few recitals coming up soon.

Recitals are slated for 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. May 13 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 204 E. Arch St., Portland. Attendance is free.



GriefShare

A faith-based bereavement support group begins meeting soon.

GriefShare will meet for 13 weeks starting May 30. Sessions will be from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at Zion Lutheran Church in Portland. Attendance is free.

Tri Kappa

Tri Kappa recently hosted its 65th state convention at French Lick Resort.

Representing the Portland chapter were Jodi McKee, Meg Mauger, Carla Johnson, Mary Laux and Christy Manor. The state philanthropic organization has nearly 7,000 members in 227 active and associate chapters throughout the state of Indiana.
