Police seek help to ID man
Body was found near walking trail north of city
Authorities are looking for someone to identify a dead body found in Hartford City.
A deceased male was found April 27 near a walking trail in the woods on the north side of the city. Blackford County coroner Zach Crouch said officials believe the body had been there for six to seven months.
Foul play isn’t expected in the case. An autopsy revealed what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, noted Crouch.
Based on evidence found at the scene, police believe the victim may be Douglas Hall, a Hartford City native born in 1951. (Crouch noted it isn’t the former police chief Douglas Hall. This Douglas Hall spent time in Tennessee, Florida and Maine before he moved back to Hartford City about two or three years ago.) A missing person report was filed for Hall in October.
In order to confirm the body’s identify, Crouch said, police need to access Hall’s dental records or connect with his family. Because he lived in several different states, police have had difficulty pinpointing his dentist.
“Anybody that has any information that could positively identify him would be much appreciated,” said Crouch.
