Nominate for Golden Hoosier award

Nominations are open for the 2023 Golden Hoosier Award.

The program, now in its 16th year, honors senior Indiana residents for their lifetime of service and commitment to their communities. More than 200 Indiana residents have been honored since the start of the program, which is a collaboration between Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch’s office and Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Aging.

To be eligible, the nominee must currently be an Indiana resident, age 65 or older and have been a volunteer in the community for the past three years. The deadline for submitting applications is July 9. Nomination forms can be accessed by visiting in.gov/lg/lt-governor-initiatives/golden-hoosier-award.

Alumni event

Jay County Historical Society will host an open house for alumni of Madison Township High School from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.



Scholarship secured

A Fort Recovery resident has been awarded at least a $20,000 scholarship to Capital University.

Daniel Patch will be receiving the Main Street Scholarship, which promises a minimum of $20,000 annually to full-time undergraduate students entering their first year of college, according to a press release from the university in Bexley, Ohio.



Trine honors

A couple local students were named to honors lists at Trine University for the spring semester.

Issac Braun, a chemical engineering major, and Levi Peterson, a mechanical engineering major, both of Portland, made the President’s List. To earn the honor, students must complete a minimum of 12 hours and have a 3.75 GPA or higher.

Olivia Rowles, a criminal justice major, made the Dean’s List. To earn the honor, students must complete a minimum of 12 hours and have at least a 3.5 GPA.
