A Delaware man died and two local residents sustained injuries as the result of a vehicle collision Friday.
Roberto Rosa Pagan, 50, Dover, was killed when the van he was driving failed to stop at an intersection and hit a truck, causing the van to flip and crushing him inside.
Rosa Pagan was driving a 2014 Ram Promaster 2500 north on county road 200 West about 10:30 a.m. He didn’t stop at the intersection with Indiana 26, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, and continued north, striking a 2000 Ford F-650 driven by 67-year-old Jacob B. Sofronko of Ridgeville.
The van went off the north side of the highway and overturned, trapping Rosa Pagan inside and crushing him. The truck Sofronko was driving spun 180 degrees and stopped in a field just northeast of the intersection.
Rosa Pagan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sofronko and passenger Michael D. Cline of Dunkirk were ejected from the truck and sustained various injuries, according to the police report. They were flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Damage is estimated between $50,0000 and $100,000. The truck is registered to Ohio Valley Gas Corporation of Portland, and the van is registered to Stephen C. Worthington of Loogootee. Both vehicles were towed.
