’Cats silence Indians

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians' bats have been a lot more lively in 2024. The Wildcats finally found a way to keep them quiet.

The Minster Wildcats shut out the Fort Recovery High School baseball team 5-0 on Thursday.

The Indians (5-6, 2-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) only managed one hit in the game. Reece Evers delivered that hit in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the line drive to left field couldn’t score Riggs Tobe from second base.

Small ball helped the Wildcats (15-2, 5-1 MAC) build a 3-0 lead over the first three innings as runs scored on a ground out, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly.

Two more runs scored in the fifth inning as two walks and a pair of stolen bases set put James Niemeyer in position to drive in a run with a ground out. Ian Homan followed with a double to push another across the plate.

Alex Gaerke suffered the loss, giving up all five runs on three hits and six walks over 4 ⅓ innings pitched.

The Indians’ best chance to score came in the sixth inning as Reece Wendel reached base on a dropped third strike and Gavin Faller and Troy Homan both drew walks to load the bases with two outs. Louis Magoto struck out Tobe to end the inning with no damage done.

Seven run fifth

MINSTER, Ohio — A seven-run fifth inning pushed the Minster Wildcats over the limit as they beat the Fort Recovery softball team 11-1 in five innings Thursday.

The Wildcats (20-1, 4-0 MAC) started the inning hot as they hit back-to-back doubles to score a run off of Britney Tebbe who came into the game as relief. Tebbe walked the next batter and threw a wild pitch to allow a second run to score before Fort Recovery (6-10, 3-3 MAC) moved back to starter Jenna Homan. She gave up a single before a fielder’s choice recorded the first out of the inning.

A subsequent walk, single and ground out scored four more runs. The game ended on an error by catcher Kylie Post that allowed a run to score.

The Indians’ only run came in the third inning on a single by Ava Grisez that drove in Tebbe.
