Indians pick up third-straight win

Fort Recovery guards fuel 20-point fourth quarter

BERNE — The Indians’ offense has started to come on as of late.

Macy Pries did everything in her power to prevent a loss, but couldn’t completely counter the Indinans’ guard play.

Cali Wendel and Makenna Huelskamp combined for 34 points to lead the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team past the South Adams Starfires 52-46 on Tuesday.

Trailing by eight entering the fourth quarter, the Fort Recovery (5-8) guards took over offensively to help score 20 in the quarter and lead the Indians to their third-straight victory.

Huelskamp and Wendel both hit a pair of threes and combined for 5-of-10 at the free-throw line in the final quarter. The other three FRHS points came on a basket by Sophia Guggenbiller and a Karlie Niekamp free throw.

Outside of the fourth-quarter scoring, Wendle hit a three in each quarter, while Hueslkamp worked inside the arc, finishing one bucket in the first and two with a pair of free throws in the second. They had 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Pries led South Adams (6-13) in scoring with 25 points, all of which came inside the arc or at the free-throw line (7-of-12).

The SAHS senior had all six of the Starfires’ points in the final period.

Indians split

MUNCIE — The Fort Recovery girls swim team split in a double-dual with Delta and Muncie Burris on Tuesday in a meet hosted by Delta.

Paige Fortkamp claimed the only first-place finish for the girls team. Her time of 2 minutes, 4.07 seconds, beat the Delta’s Camry Hensley by over 10 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle.

Fortkamp also earned second in the 100 butterfly, coming up 6.83 seconds short of the top spot.

Sage Wendel put together the strongest performance for the boys with a pair of victories. He broke his own record at FRHS in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:29.95, which decimated the field by 20 seconds.

The senior also claimed the 50 freestyle in 24.32.
