Entries are open for photo contest

It’s time to share your favorite photos of the Hoosier state.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology annual photo contest is underway.

The contest is for photos of structures in Indiana that are at least 50 years old, though this year’s theme is Indiana’s historic scholastic gymnasiums. It is open to photographers of any age and skill level.

Photographers can enter up to three images. For complete rules and the required entry form, visit on.IN.gov/preservation-month. Images must be emailed with the entry form to [email protected].

The deadline to enter is April 5.

Blood drives scheduled this month include:

•Randolph County — 1 to 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at Farmland Friends Church, 8311 W. Indiana 32, Farmland

•Delaware County — noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Riverview Church of the Nazarene, 2600 E. Willard St., Muncie; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Delta High School, 3400 E. Indiana 28, Muncie

Asking for essays

The 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest led by the Indiana Association of High School Principals is open for submissions.

The contest is open to students in grades six through 12. Participants are asked to write an essay based on the following King quote: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

Additional details about the contest are available at iasp.org/students/mlk-jr-essay. The deadline to submit essays is Feb. 29.

Requesting feedback

Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is asking for feedback regarding how the state should spend federal grant funds to improve Indiana’s air quality.

IDEM received a $3 million initial grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency to conduct a greenhouse gas emissions inventory and develop a plan, and may be eligible to apply for additional funding to implement strategies.

At on.IN.gov/cprg, Hoosiers can find an overview of the grant and other details as well as a link to a survey regarding how the funds should be spent.
