Food pantry will be available Thursday

Taking Note

Jay County Public Library’s pop-up food pantry is tomorrow.

The one-day pantry started last year returns from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday. The food pantry will be open while supplies last in the library’s community room. Representatives from Tyson Foods will be on-site and giving out free items to those visiting the food pantry.

Other activities slated for this month at the library include an adult conservation crafting night from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 8. A collaboration between the library, Jay County Soil and Water Conservation District and Indiana Cooperative Invasives Management, the event will feature a presentation about invasive plants and plant identification followed by crafting a pair of earrings out of honeysuckle beads. Registration is required for the event by calling (260) 726-7890 or visiting the library.

Also, during the week of the Tri-State Antique Engine and Tractor Show, the library will be hosting its annual book sale. The sale will be available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 22, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23 and 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 24. There will also be an early bird sale with a $20 entry fee from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 22.

Offering internships

Indiana Senate Republicans are offering paid internships for the spring 2025 semester.

Interns will be involved in the party’s communications, information technology, legal, legislative, page and policy offices during the 2025 legislative session. They receive a $900 stipend every two weeks.

In order to apply, a student must be at least a college sophomore. Recent college graduates, graduate students and law school students are also eligible.

"The Senate internship program encourages young professionals to engage in their community and learn about the importance of state government," said State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle), who represents Blackford County. "The skills interns gain from this experience are transferable to all aspects of the workforce and valuable to professional and personal development. It is a great networking opportunity where interns will have a chance to meet and work with many lawmakers, state agency representatives and other community leaders. I highly encourage those who are eligible to take advantage of this opportunity by applying."
