Backing accident
A Florida man backed into a Jay School Corporation bus on county road 700 West about 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Kuzyk Vadym, 34, Hollywood, was driving a 2023 Kenworth T680 on the road near Indiana 67 and approaching a railroad crossing. According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, the crossing may have been too steep to cross with the semi’s low-laying trailer, which carried an excavator. Barbra J. Louck, 56, Redkey, was driving a 2022 Freightliner bus north on the road behind him. Vadym didn’t see the school bus and began backing up, causing him to crash into it.
The bus wasn’t carrying children at the time of the crash. The vehicle Vadyn was driving is registered to Peak Leaking. Damage is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

Matthew A. Vore, 37, was driving his 2025 Kia Soul south on the drive near Lafayette Street when he hit the guardrail.
According to a Portland Police report, railing impaled his driver’s side bumper and went through his fender well into the vehicle’s cabin, hitting his left leg.
He was administered a blood and alcohol test with results pending. Vore was flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for his injuries.
Damage is estimated between $25,000 and $50,000. His vehicle was towed.
