Girls finish ninth, boys take 12th

Huelskamp, Roessner lead Tribe at Brookville Invite


BROOKVILLE, Ohio — The Tribe girls have a pair of strong runners and now both have broken the 22-minute mark.

Riley Heitkamp dipped under 22 minutes for the first time this season as the Fort Recovery High School girls cross country team placed ninth at the Brookville Invite on Saturday.

The girls earned their spot out of 13 teams with 234 points, while Oakwood claimed first with 33. The boys racked up 325 points to finish 12th of 20 teams. Centerville won the event with a 65.

Makenna Huelskamp had the best finish of the Indians as her time of 21 minutes, 14.5 seconds, claimed 20th. Riley Heitkamp wasn’t far behind as she crossed the line in 21:46.7 for 28th place.

Other scores for Fort Recovery’s girls came from Madison Heitkamp (57th, 22:56.4), Kendall Ranly (68th, 24:51.1) and Claire Grube (133rd, 26:28.5).

Alex Roessner led the boys with a career-best time of 17:52.0 to finish 35th.

Reese Diller and Russell Hart also finished in the top 100 runners as the former claimed 50th in 18:21.6 and the latter crossed the line at 93rd in 19:39.8.

The other two scores came from Andon Roessner (122nd, 20:18.0) and Henry Jutte (153rd, 21:30.5).


Aker makes ACAC

DECATUR — Erin Aker finished 15th at the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament at Cross Creek Golf Course on Saturday to make the second team All-ACAC and lead the Jay County High School girls golf team to a sixth-place finish.

Jay County finished with 454 strokes, beating out Woodlan, while Bluffton took the title with 376. South Adams finished just above JCHS with a 440.

Aker’s 106 led the way for the Patriots. Aker made par once, while shooting bogey six times, including three in a row on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes.

Alexa Ridenour finished second for the Patriots with a 112. The lefty carded seven bogeys on the day.

Elizabeth Brunswick had 117 strokes, while Reny Lingo rounded out the team score with a 119.

Taven Bentley’s 124 did not affect the final.


Jay falls

ANDERSON  — Jay County’s boys soccer team ran out of time before it could complete the comeback on Saturday as it fell to the Anderson Indians 4-3.

The Patriots (4-2-1) got on the board first as Jaxson DeHoff found Brody Collins for a goal in the 23rd minute of the first half.

Things started to unravel for JCHS from there as Anderson (6-1) scored three unanswered goals before halftime.

The Indians struck first in the second half as well to go up 4-1.

Jay County didn’t back down as Collins delivered an assist to Jacoby Penrod with 12 minutes remaining.

The Patriots cut into the lead again with 8 minutes to go as Elias Mueller found the net, but they couldn’t find a fourth goal.

Yowell saved seven shots while allowing the four goals.
