Amount increased

Portland City Council on Monday approved an amended bond ordinance, increasing the amount of the bond that will cover the cost of a new equalization basin and wet weather pump station to $30 million.

Proposal offered to help revamp zoning

On Friday, consultant Ed Curtin of CWC Latitudes presented the commission with a proposal from Rundell Ernstberger Associates regarding rewriting the city’s zoning code. The process, as proposed by the firm, would be completed in three phases with a total cost of $141,000.

Howell to lead county highway

Jay County Commissioners agreed to hire Bob Howell as the next highway superintendent at their regular meeting Monday. His appointment, effective Feb. 23, comes a few days after news of highway superintendent Eric Butcher’s resignation.

Request for EDIT loan is tabled

Riya Hospitality’s Paresh Patel asked Jay County Commissioners for a $219,573 loan Monday in order to help connect the former Budget Inn to Portland’s wastewater system.

Redkey police to get new guns

Redkey Town Council approved a request Thursday from Marshal Zach Moser to purchase six Glock 9mm pistols from Kiesler Police Supply of Jeffersonville for just under $1,000.
