Memorial pies
Emmett Betz, 10, and Bennett Betz, 8, started baking pies in June with their mother, Jenn Betz. They’ve been selling pies through their Facebook page, 2 Guys Pies, to raise money for other families who have experienced a farming-related injury or death.
Schoolhouse project
Though it hasn’t been used for its original purpose in more than seven decades, the former schoolhouse remains the hub of Salamonia. The town of 148 residents in southeast Jay County completed projects this year to help keep Salamonia Schoolhouse Community Center stable and accessible into the future.

County OKs a new plan
Jay County Commissioners approved amendments to the county’s capital improvement plan on Monday.It includes plan objectives, descriptions of capital projects and specifies that the cost of projects on the list accounts for “at least 75% of the fractional amount of revenue allocated for economic development purposes,” according to the ordinance.
List is approved as TIF options
Plans are in the works for how to spend the additional funds available to county officials in coming years.

Jay County Commissioners approved a $66,325 formal service agreement Monday with the organization, which has been in charge of animal control for the county since January 2021.
