Partial collapse
The front portion of a building in downtown Redkey partially collapsed Thursday. Plans are in place to investigate whether the structure can be restored or must be demolished.
Former jail officer sentenced
A former Jay County Jail correctional officer has been sentenced to one year of home detention for engaging in sexual acts with an inmate.
Council changes pay rates for some positions
Some county positions will see changes reflected in their paychecks in the near future.
JCDC discusses contract, lease
Board members in attendance agreed to call a special meeting within the next few weeks to address contract stipulations from Jay County Commissioners and to take action on a lease agreement with the City of Portland. The board could not take any votes because it did not have a quorum.
Variance OK’d for JCCT building
Portland Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance request Tuesday for Jay County Civic Theatre to build a new structure at 204 E. High St.
Mercer wins again, Harris shows top cow
Another year, another win for Elise Mercer. Mercer showed the grand champion dairy heifer and Courtney Harris showed the supreme grand champion dairy cow at the Jay County 4-H Dairy Show on July 10.
Myers sweeps her way through sheep
Kylinn Myers dominated the sheep show this year. Myers showed the grand champion ewe and grand champion market lamb at the 4-H Sheep Show on July 10.
Safety improvements planned
Safety improvements are coming for pedestrians in Fort Recovery, specifically children and teenagers going to school.
