Patriots fall to Lions

LEO — Jay County High School’s wrestling team dropped its first match of the season Thursday in a 43-27 defeat to the Leo Lions.
Kaimen Sanders and Dallas Dudelston both pinned their opponents in the first round. Dudelston needed just 74 seconds to get the win in the 132-pound weight division, and Sanders got the pin in 1 minute, 39 seconds.
Tyler Leonhard (152) won by a 1-0 decision, Levi Hummel got a 13-7 victory at 170 and Andy Kohler picked up a win at 182 with a 7-1 decision.
Heavyweight Chris Pfeifer won by forfeit.
Tristin Atkins, Colton Compton, Ivan Hemmelgarn, Ben Antrim and Jose Bermudez were all pinned in the first round. Mitchell Frasher lost by major decision, and Gaven Hare was defeated by a 3-2 decision.

Jay freshmen win
WINCHESTER — Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 29-16 victory Thursday against the host Winchester Golden Falcons.
Max Moser led the Patriot effort offensively with seven points. Garrett Rodgers and Holton Hill both had six points, and Collin Haines tallied five.
Conner Davis added four points and Andrew Fields chipped in with one free throw.

EJMS 3-0 in ACAC
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team moved to 3-0 in the Allen County Athletic Conference with a 32-22 win over the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday.
The seventh grade Chiefs lost, 18-11.
Kendra Muhlenkamp scored 10 points to lead the eighth graders (5-1). Gwen Omstead chipped in with nine points, and Klarissa Hemmelgarn and Hanna Dillon both had four points.

For the seventh graders (1-5, 1-2 ACAC), Mackynzie Fairchild, Sara Muhlenkamp, Kristy Robbins, Taylor May and Macey Weitzel all scored two points.

Chiefs sweep Tigers
BLUFFTON — The East Jay seventh and eighth grade boys basketball team both beat the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday.
The seventh graders edged the Tigers 31-29 before the eighth graders won, 36-24.
Noah Arbuckle had 17 points to lead the EJMS seventh graders (3-4, 2-1 ACAC).
Alex McFarland had six points, and Brayden Sprunger scored three. Brandon Cramer and Ethan Corwin added two points each.
For the eighth grade Chiefs (5-2, 2-1 ACAC), Michael Schlecthy had 14 points. Parker Grimes and Korbin Auker added six points each. Ryan Schlechty and Matthew Franks each tallied four points.

Eagle 8th wins
UNION CITY — West Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team squeaked out a 17-15 road victory against the Union City Indians on Thursday.
The Eagle seventh graders lost 42-3.
Rhegan Shimp had seven points and eight rebounds for the eighth graders (3-2). Kendal Garringer followed with six points and a half dozen rebounds. Randi Ferguson grabbed eight rebounds to go with her two points, and Calli Crosby totaled two points.
Allison Jobe scored two points and hauled in nine rebounds for the seventh grade Eagles (1-4). Neveah Cox had one point, and Asilyn Davis grabbed four rebounds.
