Patriots go 2-1 at ACAC quad

MONROE — Jay County High School’s wrestling team picked up a pair of wins Thursday in an Allen County Athletic Conference quad meet at Adams Central.
The Patriots (6-3, 2-2 ACAC) defeated Woodlan 40-36 and Southern Wells 46-28 before losing to Adams Central, 48-24.
Junior Andy Kohler went a perfect 3-0 on the night, recording pins in the first round against Woodlan and Adams Central. He competed in both the 182- and 195-pound weight divisions.
Going 2-1 for the Patriots were Jon Blankenship (220), Chris Pfeifer (285), Colton Compton (126 and 132), Dallas Dudelston (132 and 138) and Tyler Leonhard (152 and 160).

SA girls edge Delta
BERNE — Delta overcame a lackluster opening quarter to take the lead in the final frame against South Adams.
But the Starfire girls basketball team rallied, defeating the visiting Eagles 50-47 Thursday night.
After managing just two points in the opening frame, Delta cut its 10-point deficit to three, 34-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
South Adams (6-4) went point-for-point with Delta (2-8) down the stretch for the victory.
Sydney Willis led the Starfires with 18 points, half of which came by way of the 3-pointer. She was also 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Cindy In’t Groen scored 11 points to join Willis in double figures, and Lexi Dellinger chipped in with nine points. Sharon Balsiger added eight.

Delta’s Micaya Richardson led all players with 20 points.

Star grapplers 2-1
BLUFFTON — The Starfire wrestling team went 2-1 Thursday in an ACAC quad meet at Bluffton.
South Adams defeated Heritage 57-12 and the host Tigers 44-36, and lost to defending conference champion Leo, 51-24.
Wyatt Miller, Sawyer Miller, Boaz Marbach and Isaiah Baumgartner all went 3-0 for South Adams. Baumgartner competed at 195, Wyatt Miller wrestled at 106 and Sawyer Miller competed at 120. Marbach won two matches at 152 and the other at 160.
Going 2-1 for the Stars were Briar Goodwin (113), Braxton Haight (126) and Tayler Cueller (285).

JC freshmen fall
Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team dropped its first game of the season Thursday, 28-24 at the hands of the visiting Muncie Central Bearcats.
Jordan Stultz led the Patriot effort with seven points, with Garrett Rodgers and Connor Davis each tallying six points.
Holton Hill chipped in with five points, as Jay County fell to 3-1.
