JCHS diver places second

CONNERSVILLE — Christian Phillips came up big for the Patriots Friday.
Phillips got the Jay County High School boys swim team off to a strong start with a second-place finish in diving at the Connersville Invitational. The competition continues with swimming events today.
The Patriot boys stand second with 22 points behind the host Spartans (38) in the five-team event after Phillips totaled 269.5 points to take the runner-up spot. Cole Barricklow of Connersville was first with 301.3. Ryan Harris added a sixth-place finish for JCHS.
The Jay County girls are fourth with 12 points after their three divers finished in consecutive order Friday. Heather Stinson led the group with 243.65 points for eighth place ahead of teammates Samantha Link (ninth – 233.95) and Lou Moser (10th – 229).

Fort falls to Jays
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys basketball team couldn’t extend its run to three straight wins Friday as it fell 56-40 to the host St. John’s Blue Jays.
The Indians (2-4, 0-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), who had won consecutive games over Shawnee and Waynesfield-Goshen, fell behind by 10 in the opening quarter and were unable to recover. They shot 34 percent for the game, including 32 percent in the second half.
Andy Grothouse scored 19 points, including a 10-of-12 effort at the free-throw line, to lead the Blue Jays (3-0, 1-0 MAC) to the victory. Alex Odenwaller added 13 points.
Kyle Schroer was the lone Indian to reach double figures as he totaled 12 points. Micaiah Cox had seven points and five rebounds.
The junior varsity team won 42-33 as Jackson Hobbs led the way with 12 points. Cade Wendel added nine points.

Heritage tops SA
MONROEVILLE — The Starfire boys basketball team is still looking for its first win after falling 60-47 Friday to the host Heritage Patriots.

South Adams (0-4, 0-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) couldn’t keep up with Heritage despite shooting better from the field, 47 percent to 46. The Patriots (3-2, 1-1 ACAC), who climbed above .500 for the first time this year, outscored SAHS 16-8 at the foul line.
Branson Dossen hit six free throws as he led Heritage with 16 points, and Billy Lomow scored half of his 14 points at the line. Bradley Scott added 12 points.
Conner Sealscott matched Dossen with 16 points for the Starfires, and also grabbed 13 rebounds. Cole Myers had 11 points and six rebounds, and Derek Wanner finished with 10 points.
The junior varsity team won 41-36 behind 13 points from McGerran Clouser, and the freshmen won 37-34.
