8th-ranked Bellmont clobbers Patriots

DECATUR - The Class 3A No. 8 Bellmont Braves put up enough runs for the victory in the second inning Thursday night, defeating the Jay County High School baseball team 17-7.
The Patriots, who had won six in a row, had a 2-1 lead after the opening inning. However, Bellmont scored 10 times in the bottom of the second and rolled to the win.
Andy Haffner took the loss as five different pitches worked the mound for JCHS (10-9).
Colton Lombardo hit his third home run in the last three games. He finished 3-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.
Trey Dunn had two hits, two RBIs and a run, and Nathaniel Brown also had two hits.
Stars streak ends
BLUFFTON - The winning streak for the South Adams baseball team ended at three games as the Starfires fell 9-7 Thursday to the Bluffton Tigers.
SAHS (6-19) had leads of 1-0, 3-1 and 5-3 in the game, but Bluffton scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning to claim control. The Starfires put up two runs in the sixth, but fell short against their Allen County Athletic Conference foe.
Nick Batt gave up eight runs on eight hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss. T.J. Burnfield gave up one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Andrew Smith hit a solo home run in the fourth innings for South Adams. John Striker racked up four doubles, driving in one run in the first, third and fourth innings and two in the sixth.

MONROE - The Adams Central Flying Jets posted nine runs in the second inning Thursday on the way to handing the Jay County junior varsity baseball team a 14-2 defeat.
Jordan McBride took the loss as errors and walks hurt him. He gave away six free passes and allowed five runs despite not giving up a hit in 1 2/3 innings.
McBride also led the offense for JCHS (4-10) with a single and two RBIs. Justin Ellis had the only other Patriot hit, and Anthony Skeens and Ryan Miskinis each scored a run.[[In-content Ad]]
