Adams Central defeats Starfires (12/08/06)

BERNE - South Adams managed just a pair of victories in contested matches Thursday, falling to the Adams Central Jets wrestling team 42-27.

Three of the Starfires' five wins and two-thirds of their points came by forfeit. Jim Marbach and Josh Kimberlin turned in the only two wins over the Jets.

Marbach (130) picked up the lone pin of the evening for South Adams. He finished off Drake Hill in the first period, winning in 1-minute, 17 seconds.

Kimberlin (HWT) defeated Kyle Thomas by an 11-4 score.

FR girls split with Tigers

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery seventh grade girls basketball team dominated after the opening quarter Thursday, crushing the Versailles Tigers 39-22. The eighth graders couldn't keep up in the fourth quarter of a 33-30 defeat.

Olivia Schwieterman scored 18 points to lead the seventh graders, who trailed 6-2 at the close of the opening period. But, the Indians pushed to a two-point halftime lead and outscored Versailles 37-16 over the final three quarters.

Kelly Nietfeld followed Schwieterman with nine points.

The teams traded the lead in the opening half of the eighth grade game before coming to a tie at the end of the third quarter. Versailles used a 9-6 advantage in the fourth to take the win.

Kendra Brunswick paced Fort Recovery with 17 points, and Nicole Dilworth added six.

Chief 7th wins in OT

East Jay Middle School's seventh grade boys basketball team needed a little extra time to do it, but pushed above .500 Thursday with a 46-42 overtime win against the Bluffton Tigers. The EJMS eighth grade team fell 43-25.

Andy Haffner was the lone Chief to reach double figures on the night, scoring 10 points in the win of the seventh grade team (3-2). Austin Cowan and Darren Scott each added nine points.

Austin Mann's seven points paced the eighth graders (2-3) with seven points. Drew Houck scored six points.

Tigers defeat Fort

VERSAILLES - Fort Recovery's middle school boys basketball teams couldn't keep up with the Versailles Tigers Thursday, each slipping to 0-2. The eighth graders lost 38-36, and the seventh grade team fell 50-27.

John Homan led the eighth grade, which managed just two points in the fourth quarter, with 12 points. Shane Brunswick had 11 points and six rebounds, and Craig Fortkamp added seven rebounds.

Jared Kahlig scored 10 points for the seventh graders, and Jason Pottkotter had nine points.[[In-content Ad]]
