Aker Giant against Marion

MARION — Katie Aker was in a three-way tie for the team lead in RBIs with 10.
She hit half that total Tuesday against the Marion Giants.
Aker had three hits, including one double, and drove in five in the Jay County High School softball team’s 12-2 win over Marion in six innings.
It is the 11th straight victory for the Patriots, who are six wins shy of the school record set by the 2008 squad.
Jay County (11-0) scored three runs in the first, four in the second and two in the third before Marion finally broke through for a run in the fourth.
The Patriots added three more in the top of the sixth to take a 12-1 lead, and the Giants failed to extend the game to the seventh inning by only scoring one run in the sixth.
Katlin Petro added to Aker’s offensive production by driving in three runs on two hits.
Chelsea Tighe also had a pair of RBIs and Courtney Finnerty added a double.
Larissa Boles, who added two hits at the plate, pitched all six innings, surrendering two runs on two hits. She matched her season high of 13 strikeouts and walked two, improving her record to 9-0.
Stars fall to Jets
MONROE — The Starfires lost their second Allen County Athletic Conference match of the season Wednesday.
Maddie Graber and Maddy Kloepper picked up the only wins for the South Adams girls tennis team in its 3-2 lost to the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
At No. 2 singles, Graber beat Jenna Lehman 6-1, 6-2. Kloepper defeated Olivia Mishler 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Starfires (5-4, 1-2 ACAC).
Adams Central got all three of its wins in straight sets.
SAHS sophomore Brittany Potts lost to Whitney Peterson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Kylea Pierce and Riley Liechty fell to Katie Carrol and Abby Snyder 6-1, 6-2. Erika Miller and Kara Seffernick lost to Jenny Baumer and Anna Burkhart at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-6 (10-8).
