Augsberger fights off Generals

BERNE — The visiting Generals made a late charge, but the South Adams High School baseball team held strong.
Wayne scored twice in the final inning but could not complete the comeback as the Starfires held on for a 3-2 victory.
Alex Augsberger went the distance for SAHS, and both runs against him were unearned. He allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out three batters.
Blake Fox went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Starfires, and Corey Seffernick added a double, a run and an RBI. The only other hit for South Adams was a single by Collin Affolder.
Dustin Wanner and Zach Morgan each scored a run, and Wanner also had a stolen base.
SA netters blanked
MUNCIE — South Adams’ girls tennis team is still looking for its first win after falling 5-0 Wednesday to the Muncie Central Bearcats.
The closest match of the evening for the Starfires came at No. 1 doubles, where Holly Taylor and Shiana Scott lost 6-2, 6-1 to Taylor Rabel and Natalie Cunningham. At No. 2 doubles, Megan Hreha and Fait VonGunten suffered a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Kassie Lutton and Samantha Bartholome.
All of the singles matches were shutouts, with Madi Graber falling to Ada Kirby at No. 1, Erika Miller losing to Meghan Jackson at No. 2 and Madison Kloepper falling to Aubrey Kirby at No. 3.

NOVARA, Italy — Jay County High School graduate Mitch Waters slipped to 0-3 Friday as he took the defeat in Novara United’s 15-1 loss to Danesi Caffe’ Nettun.
Waters gave up three earned runs in five innings of work. He struck out four batters.
For the season, the 2002 JCHS graduate has a 3.86 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. At the plate he is hitting .214 with three hits and one run.[[In-content Ad]]
