Bader breaks another record

MUNCIE — Another meet brought another record for Sophie Bader.
The Jay County High School freshman broke her second school record Thursday as she led the Patriot girls swim team to a pair of victories. JCHS defeated the host Muncie Southside Rebels 110-58 and the Elwood Panthers 122-48.
Bader took down another of her cousin Cori Vormohr’s records after breaking her mark in the 200-yard individual medley at the season-opening Norwell Invitational. She cruised to victory in the 200 freestyle Thursday with a time of 2 minutes, 1.44 seconds to break the previous mark of 2:02.39.
Ashley Mark, also a freshman, was the only Patriot to win a pair of events as she took first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:36.81 and the 100 freestyle in 1:00.84. Other individual wins came from Anne Vormohr in the 100 butterfly (1:01.79), Katy Smeltzer in the 100 backstroke (1:09.62), Caitlin Mark in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.94) and Sammi Compton in diving (148.75 points).
Rachel Vogler, Julie Valentine, Caitlin Mark and Vormohr teamed to win the 200 medley relay in 2:07.33. Darcy Parker, Ashley Mark, Bader and Smeltzer were first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.63, and Caitlin Mark, Bader, Vormohr and Smeltzer won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:59.2.
SA tops Archers
FORT WAYNE — The South Adams High School girls swim team won its opening dual meet of the season 99-80 Thursday over the host Fort Wayne South Side Archers.
Ellie Kaverman, Michaela Rupp and Kara DeLong each won a pair of individual events while also contributing to two relay victories. Kaverman went one-two with teammate Victoria Richardson in the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 29.36 seconds, and also won the 100 freestyle in 1:07.29.
Rupp was first in the 500 freestyle ahead of teammate Korinna Schindler in 6:50.02, and took the 50 freestyle in 29.17. DeLong’s wins came in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.47 ahead of teammate Sidney Sprunger and the 200 individual medley in 2:25.55.
Sprunger finished first in the 100 butterfly in 1:14.33 with fellow Starfire Maddie Kloepper as the runner-up, and Richardson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.44.
Kaverman, DeLong and Rupp teamed with Richardson to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:59.9, and joined Schindler to post a first-place time of 4:30.24 in the 400 freestyle relay.
WJ seventh wins
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team opened its season Monday with a 32-13 victory over South Adams.
Cole Stigleman paced the Eagles with 12 points and four assists.
Holton Hill added six points, and Garrett Rodgers and Tyler Lowe grabbed seven rebounds apiece.[[In-content Ad]]

Kaverman, DeLong and Rupp teamed with Richardson to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:59.9, and joined Schindler to post a first-place time of 4:30.24 in the 400 freestyle relay.
