Bellmont slams Starfires (04/26/05)

BERNE — South Adams’ baseball team couldn’t keep up with the Bellmont Braves Monday, falling 14-2 in five innings.

Bellmont built an 11-0 lead with four runs in the first and third innings and three in the second. The Starfires scored their only two runs in the third.

Tony Van Gelder suffered the defeat as he lasted two innings giving up nine runs — five earned — on seven hits. South Adams committed five errors in the loss.

Jordan Sharp was 2-for-2 and scored a run. Rich Kaup doubled and scored the other Starfire run.

FR girls track 5th

ANSONIA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s track teams competed at the 10-team Tiger Relays at Ansonia Friday night with the girls team placing fifth with 32 points. The boys team finished seventh, scoring 20 points.

The best finish for both teams was a second place, with the girls taking the runner-up position in the long jump relay with a total distance of 41 feet, 73/4 inches. The boys were second in the pole vault relay with a total height of 28 feet, six inches.

Five selected

Five Jay County football players have been chosen by area coaches to compete in the East/West All-Star Game at Richmond High School this summer.

Patriots participating in the game will be seniors Ben Freeman, Ryan Younts, Mark Kelly, Michael Myers and Eric Somers. They will practice with their teams throughout the week prior to the game, which will be played at RHS Friday, June 24 at 7 p.m.

Softball tryouts set

Try-outs for the Jay County junior high softball team will be Wednesday at the Jay County High School softball field.

The session will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. For more information, call JCHS softball coach Jack Wood at (765) 369-2035.

Hoop camp scheduled

The Jay County High School boys basketball program will hold its basketball camp for third through eighth graders June 13 through 17.

Third and fourth graders will camp from 10 to 11 a.m., with fifth and sixth graders from 11 a.m. to noon and seventh and eighth graders from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The cost of the camp is $30, which includes a T-shirt.
