Big 3rd keeps streak alive

FORT RECOVERY — The winning streak continues.
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team scored six runs in the third inning Thursday to beat the visiting Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks 7-1, pushing its win streak to 12 games.
The Blackhawks scored one run in the top of the first, but the Tribe (12-1) answered with a half dozen in the third, highlighted by Jacob Muhlenkamp’s two-run single that scored Elijah Kahlig and Blake Boughman. Then after a pitch hit Ben Will, three straight walks plated two more runs for Fort Recovery.
Kyle Schroer, Cole Wendel and Boughman had two hits each for the Indians, with Derek Backs, Mitch Stammen, Boughman and Schroer all adding an RBI.
Kahlig recorded the win, giving up one unearned run on four hits while striking out 10 and walking one in five innings of work.
Mikie Joash and Boughman both pitched a hitless inning and struck out one in relief of Kahlig.
Tribe boys third
GREENVILLE, Ohio — Three Indians placed first Thursday as the Fort Recovery boys track team finished third in a four-team meet.
The host Green Wave won the meet with 122 points. Versailles was second with 79, and Fort Recovery scored 32 points for third.
Fort Recovery’s girls team scored 16 points to finish in fourth place. Greenville scored 93 points for first, edging Versailles by three points.
David Trobridge finished first in the 100-meter dash, and Issac Siegrist was first in the 800 run. Travis Sutter earned the other win for the Tribe in the 3,200 run ahead of Siegrist.
Jocelyn Kaiser picked up the only victory for the Fort Recovery girls, earning the win in the shot put.
Grace Gehle was second in the 3,200 run, and the 4x200 relay team of Paige Hemmert, Bre Jutte, Hannah Kaup and Kaiser finished second.
Stars blank Tigers
BLUFFTON — South Adams opened its Allen County Athletic Conference schedule by making a statement Thursday, scoring early and often.
Katelin Augsburger and Alyssa Bluhm both had two hits, and Alaina Johnston drove in three runs as the Starfire softball team shut out the host Bluffton Tigers 11-0 in six innings.
South Adams (6-5, 1-0 ACAC) scored four runs in the first inning and tacked on one more in the second to take an early 5-0 lead.
The Starfires added four more in the fourth and two in the fifth on the way to ending the game early.
Maddie Morgan hit a double and scored twice for the Starfires, who also got a pair of runs from Olivia Turner and Johnston. Bluhm scored three times for South Adams, which drew six walks.
Johnston had two stolen bases for South Adams, and Bluhm swiped one.
Abby Myers gave up two hits in four innings to get the win, striking out six and walking a pair. Katelin Augsburger gave up two hits and struck out a pair in relief.
SA netters win
DECATUR — The South Adams girls tennis team swept the doubles matches Thursday as it picked up a 4-1 victory over the host Bellmont Squaws.
Kylea Pierce and Riley Leichty teamed up at No. 1 doubles to beat Miranda Vogiewede and Macy Phegley 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
At No. 2 doubles, Erika Miller and Kara Seffernick defeated Mindy Lashe and Kaley Butler 6-2, 6-4.
Maddie Graber recovered after losing the second set to Jenna Fenwick at No. 2 singles to get a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory.
At No. 3 singles, Maddy Kloepper beat Brielle Adams in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Brittany Potts lost to Kylie Beeny 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
The Starfires’ junior varsity lost to the Squaws 6-3.
Shiana Scott and MaJena Gerber earned singles wins for the Starfires. Lara Schwartz and Caralie Farlow teamed up to win at No. 4 doubles.
SA drops opener
BLUFFTON — South Adams’s baseball team rallied late but fell short, losing its conference opener 6-4 to the Bluffton Tigers.
Trailing 5-2, the Starfires scored two runs in the top of the fifth to get within one, but the Tigers added an insurance run in the sixth and held South Adams scoreless in the seventh to get the win.
Bluffton scored two runs each in the first and third innings, taking advantage of six South Adams errors.
Collin Affolder went 2-for-4 and scored a run to lead the Starfire offense.
Eric Pimentel and Skylar Schoch each added an RBI single, and Dakota Scherrer, Chandler Ingle and Derek Wanner each added base hits.
Affolder took the loss on the mound, giving up six runs — three earned — on seven hits in five innings. He also struck out six and walked five.
