Blackford tops Patriot netters

HARTFORD CITY — The Jay County High School boys tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision Monday to the host Blackford Bruins.
Derek Smith earned the only straight-set win for the Patriots (3-9), topping Chase Twibell 6-2, 6-2 to No. 2 singles. Landry Inman defeated Trevor Smith in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1).
Brad Leuthold fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and JCHS also suffered a doubles sweep. Joe Imel and Drew Wood fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 spot and Jordan McBride and Morton Garringer lost 6-2, 6-2.
Jay County lost 3-2 in junior varsity action with wins coming from Josh Lykins and Dylan Franks.
JC freshmen fall
WINCHESTER — Jay County’s football C team slipped to 1-3 Monday with a 22-12 loss to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Keenan James and Preston Keen each scored a touchdown for the Patriots in the defeat.
Bellmont tops Chiefs
The East Jay Middle School cross country teams all fell Monday to Bellmont. The seventh grade boys team fell 25-31, the eighth grade boys lost 19-36 and the girls lost 22-37.
Michael Denney won the seventh grade boys race for the Chiefs by seven seconds in 12 minutes, 57 seconds. Megan Wellman led the girls team with a runner-up finish in 13:00, and Jalen Ryder was fourth in the eighth grade boys race with a time of 12:58[[In-content Ad]]
