Bluffton hands JCHS netters their second defeat (09/08/06)

Jay County's boys tennis team slipped to 5-2 Thursday after a 3-2 loss to the Bluffton Tigers.
The Patriot pair of Mark Alberson and Adam Horn had a 4-2 lead in the third set of the deciding match at No. 2 doubles, but couldn't hold it. Bluffton's Matt Campbell and Matt Gerber rallied back to win 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 to give the Tigers the team victory.
Phil Powell earned Jay County's lone singles win as he pushed to 7-3 at No. 2 singles by blanking Clint Baumgartner 6-0, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles pair of Heath Rigby and Thomas McCowan topped Nick Brinneman and Gary Green 6-0, 6-3.
Josh Ludy fell 6-3, 7-5 to Nathan Baker at No. 1 singles, and Kyle Simmons dropped the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-1 to Blane Baumgartner.
Jay County fell 2-1 in junior varsity action with Hadmar Senk winning 8-2 over Jon Dauterman.

GENEVA - The South Adams girls golf team finished third as hosts of three-team action at Wabash Valley Golf Club Thursday, scoring a 220.
The Winchester Golden Falcons won easily with a score of 190, led by rounds of 43 from Erin Friend and 45 by Shantel Short. Blackford matched South Adams' 220, but took second by way of the fifth-player tiebreaker (62-68).
Amber Melick had the low round for the Starfires with a 50 at WVGC, and Mara Gerber was one stroke back with a 51.
Wildcats top FR gridders
FORT RECOVERY - Fort Recovery's scoring came too little, too late.
All three Tribe touchdowns came in the fourth quarter Thursday as the eighth grade football team lost 35-14 to the Minster Wildcats and the seventh graders fell 16-8.
Brian Keller scored the first touchdown for the eighth graders on a 2-yard run, and Craig Kaiser added a two-point conversion. Shane Brunswick got in the end zone later in the final quarter with a 35-yard run.
Kenny Wenning scored for the seventh grade Indians with a 37-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter followed by an Aaron Vagedes two-point conversion.
WJ spikers victorious
West Jay Middle School's volleyball teams each won in three games over Westside (Union City) Thursday.
The Eagle eighth grade team won the make-or-break point for a 23-25, 25-23, 15-14 victory, and the seventh graders defeated Westside 25-21, 15-25, 15-11.
Kendra Younger paced the eighth grade team with 13 points, eight of which came in game two. Talir Ellis scored seven of her eight points in the opening game.
Megan Sawyer had 11 points to lead the seventh grade Eagles, scoring five in the opening game and six in game three. Shelby Shirk added eight points, and Melinda Penrod scored seven.[[In-content Ad]]
