Braves defeat SAHS

BERNE — The South Adams High School boys tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss Wednesday to the visiting Bellmont Braves.
Ian Frank and Derek Schwartz picked up the only win for the Starfires by a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) score of Kyle Smith and Nick Faurote at No. 2 doubles.
Scott Hoepper forced a third set in his No. 2 singles match against Kodee McIntosh, but lost 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Alex Huber fell 6-1, 6-3 to Payton Selking at No. 1 singles, and Mark Muselman lost 6-3, 6-4 against Phillip Bauman at No. 3 singles.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Reid Zurcher and Kegan Sprunger lost 6-3, 6-4 to Matt Stidam and Garrett McCord.
SAHS slipped to 9-4 on the season with the loss.
South Adams dropped the junior varsity match 4-2 with victories coming from Brayden Myers and the team of Jon Steffen and Landon Lehman.

Gridders win
MONROEVILLE — Spencer Niece and Kane Sumner led the South Adams junior high football teams to victories Tuesday.
The seventh graders won 24-7 over Heritage, and the eighth grade team picked up a 6-0 victory.
Niece caught a 35-yard touchdown pass form Justin Nussbaum for the seventh grade Starfires (1-2) in the first quarter and added a 28-yard TD run in the fourth. Drew LeFever and Gage Conner also had scoring runs.
Sumner was responsible for the only points in the eighth grade team as he returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a TD. Derek Wanner had eight tackles.[[In-content Ad]]
