Bruggeman, Miller lead Jay Co. to 4th straight win (10/01/03)

Jay County Roundup

The shutout streak ended, but the winning streak did not as the Jay County girls soccer team won for the fourth game in a row Tuesday 3-1 over the Blackford Bruins.

Jamie Bruggeman and Sarah Miller turned in big efforts for the Patriots (8-3-1) with three assists and two goals respectively.

Bruggeman got the first scoring chance started, chipping the ball up to Miller less than six minutes into the game. Miller gave Jay County a 1-0 lead with her header goal.

Nine minutes later Bruggeman crossed a grounder in from the right side for Miller’s second score.

Blackford gave itself a chance midway through the second half, breaking the Patriots streak of three straight shutouts when a Rachel Smith score that scooted through goalie Sara Garringer’s hands.

But, Bruggeman assisted again to put Jay County back on top by two just a few minutes later. She found Renae Laux, who went off the post for a long score for the final margin.

Bruggeman also led the team, taking four of its 15 shots on goal. Miller finished with three.

The Patriots will play their final road game of the season Thursday when they visit Muncie Central at 4:30 p.m.
