Bruins defeat Patriots (05/07/08)

HARTFORD CITY - The Patriots had a lead against the 10th-ranked team in the state. But errors helped to take it away.
Jay County High School softball team committed three errors to allowed three unearned runs Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to the host Class 3A No. 10 Blackford Bruins.
The first run of the game came from the Patriots in the top of the fourth inning.
However, they gave up two in the bottom of the frame and two more in the fifth mostly thanks to defensive miscues.
Amber Edmundson took the loss, giving up four runs - one earned - on five hits and a walk. She struck out four in six innings.
Tiffany Davis singled and scored the lone run for JCHS, which is 11-8 on the year. Brittney Watson and Jess Piercey added one hit apiece.
Junior varsity
The host Patriots rallied from a 9-4 deficit to take a three-run lead before falling 13-12 to Blackford.
Selena McKibben took the loss, allowing 13 runs - nine earned - on 10 hits and two walks. She struck out four in seven innings.
Caitlin Gilbert was 3-for-5 with three runs, and Laura Castillo doubled and scored twice. McKibben had three hits, and Shelby Gierhart, Brittany Muhlenkamp and Kyli Kelso each had two hits and a run.
