Caleb Bye is back on top.
Bye, a 2003 graduate who holds all of Jay County’s boys diving records, picked up his first victory of the season Dec. 10. The Ball State junior scored 272.77 points to finish less than a point ahead of Michigan State’s Matt Akerley in 1-meter diving.
He also added a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter event as the Cardinals fell 128-115. He scored 188.85 points.
Abby Arnold
The 2002 Jay County graduate who also competes at Ball State had a second-place finish as the Cardinal women’s swim team also fell to Michigan State Dec. 10.
Arnold’s top effort came in the 200-yard freestyle relay. She joined Ashley VanOsdol, Lauren Harger and Michelle Huang to finish second in 1-minute, 37.05 seconds.
She added a pair of fourth-place finishes as well, teaming with Mary Brinkoetter, Nicole Rambeau and Erin Johnson for fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:56.29. She was also fourth in her lone individual event, winning the 50 freestyle in 25.11.
Sara Heitkamp
A Capital University senior and Fort Recovery graduate, she helped the Crusader women’s basketball team to push its record to 8-0 with a 77-46 victory over Mount Union December 10.
Heitkamp finished second on the team in scoring, going 7-of-12 from the field for 14 points. She also had five steals, four assists and two rebounds for No. 9 Capital.
Dustin Overton
The 2004 Jay County graduate helped the Ancilla men’s basketball team to a 111-84 victory Monday over the Bethel College junior varsity squad.
Overton was one of five Chargers to reach double figures as he scored 11 points.
He also grabbed seven rebounds.

A 2005 graduate of Jay County, Gasparovic grabbed a pair of rebounds in the Concordia University women’s basketball team’s 56-29 win over Alverno College Monday.[[In-content Ad]]
