A Jay County graduate travelled to Michigan to pick up his second win of the year.
Caleb Bye, a 2003 JCHS grad, won the one-meter diving competition for the Ball State men’s swim team against Eastern Michigan with 288.07 points. The Cardinals lost the meet, 148-83.
He also placed fourth in the three-meter events, scoring 260.85 points.
Abby Arnold, who graduated from Jay County in 2002, was in on a pair of third place finishes as the Ball State women’s swim team fell 140-103 to Eastern Michigan.
Arnold joined Mary Brinkoetter, Nicole Rambeau and Erin Johnson to place third in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.06, and teamed with Meghan Patterson, Danielle Fisher and Ashley VanOsdol for third in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:36.90.
She added a sixth-place effort with a time of 25.10 in the 50 freestyle.
Sara Heitkamp
The Capital University senior and Fort Recovery graduate tied a school record as the No. 16 Crusader women’s basketball team improved to 16-2 with a 60-43 win over Heidelberg Wednesday.
Heitkamp’s two steals in the game gave her 337 for her career, tying the record mark set by 1997 graduate Carrie Ferguson. She is averaging 3.7 steals per game, and can break the record when Capital visits Otterbein today.
She also scored a game-high 16 points against Heidelberg, and grabbed seven rebounds.
She finished with eight points, five assists, five steals and three rebounds.
Dustin Overton
The Jay County graduated led the Ancilla men’s basketball team in scoring and rebounding as it fell 97-72 to Glen Oaks Community College Wednesday.
Overton scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Charters (7-11).
Tyler Niekamp
A 2003 graduate of Fort Recovery, he score seven points in each of the Findlay University men’s basketball team’s last two games as it ran its winning streak to 13 games.
Niekamp had seven points and four rebounds in a 92-53 win Tuesday over Central State for the Oilers, who are ranked ninth in the NCAA’s Division II. He also had a pair of assists.
He added seven points and three rebounds in a 74-54 victory over Northwood Jan. 21.[[In-content Ad]]
