Pete Byrum did everything he could to get his team to the NAIA World Series, but the Indiana Tech baseball team still fell short.

Byrum, a Jay County graduate, won both of his postseason starts, but the Warriors dropped out of the tournament as it lost 2-1 in its three-game series in the Heartland Super Regional to William Penn.

Byrum was outstanding as he picked up the lone win for Indiana Tech in the series against William Penn. He tossed a complete game five-hitter in an 8-1 victory Friday, May 21.

He allowed just one unearned run in the contest while striking out four and walking one. His victory evened the series at 1-1, but the Warriors lost 3-2 on Saturday, May 22 to end their season at 37-24.

The senior also won his other postseason start as Indiana Tech won four straight tournament games to take the Region VIII championship.

He allowed two runs — one earned — on six hits in nine innings for a 9-2 victory over Bethel College. He struck out three and did not issue a walk.

In tournament play he had a 0.50 ERA, having allowed just one earned run in 18 innings. He ended the year as the top starter in both ERA and wins for the Warriors.

Byrum went 8-3 with a 1.84 ERA. He struck out 50 batters and gave up just 12 walks in 83 innings.[[In-content Ad]]
