Portland Rockets/Geneva Cardinals
GENEVA - The Portland Rockets and Geneva Cardinals have started the season in opposite directions.
The Cardinals kept the pattern going Tuesday, improving to 4-1 with a 12-7 victory over their neighbors to the south. Portland dropped to 0-5 with the loss.
Corey Oetting powered Geneva with a two-run home run in the fifth inning as part of a four-hit, five-RBI game. Eric Hisner also went deep in the third inning, and Adam King had a pair of hits for the Cardinals.
Jared Baker earned the win as he struck out seven and walked one in six innings.
Portland scored six of its seven runs in the third inning, which was keyed by a Ryan Schmidt grand slam.
Cory Waldrath finished with three hits, and Greg Cauble added a pair.
