Cash powers West Jay boys track (04/19/07)

Cowan has probably seen just about enough of Zach Cash.
West Jay Middle School's boys track team won seven events Wednesday - four of which involved Cash - for a 61-39 victory over the Cowan Blackhawks. The Eagle girls stayed close thanks to a couple of sweeps, but lost 55-45.
Cash won every event he competed in, including a photo-finish in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished in 19.78 seconds, winning by just three hundredths.
In the 100 dash, Cash led a West Jay sweep by winning in 13.53 with teammates Dylan Huey and Blake Crouch in second and third. He was also first easily in the 400 dash at 1-minute, 2 seconds, and teamed with Crouch, Huey and Anthony Skeens to win the 4x100 relay in 55.84.
Huey added a victory in the 200 dash at 28.12 seconds, and Skeens took first place with a leap of 12 feet, 91/2 inches in the long jump. Wesley Price was first with a high jump of 4 feet, 6 inches, and Tyler Back took the shot put at a distance of 32 feet, 6 inches.
Ashley Franklin, Kyli Kelso and Macey Gerber combined for a pair of sweeps to lead the Eagle girls.
Franklin took the top spot in the long jump at 12 feet, 2 inches, with Kelso second and Gerber third. Kelso won the 100 dash at 15.6 with Gerber (15.09) and Franklin (15.1) close behind.
Franklin added a second victory as she cleared the high jump bar at 4 feet. Hayley Knight had the other WJMS victory in the shot put with a toss of 26 feet, 6 inches.
Cash also had three individual wins and contributed to a relay victory in a 41-59 loss Tuesday to the Monroe Central Golden Bears. He was first in the 110 hurdles (18.59), 100 dash (12.9) and 400 dash (1:00.09), and teamed with Crouch, Huey and Skeens for a winning time of 52.21 in the 4x100 relay.
Chance Fuller had the only other Eagle win against Monroe Central, taking the 1,600 run in 5:55.[[In-content Ad]]
