Catalina tops Jay Co. tankers (06/22/04)

The Jay County Summer Swim Team’s first trip to the Catalina Swim Club in Muncie couldn’t even be completed. Jay County lost a 409-348 decision to Catalina as rain washed out the second half of the meet.
A pair of Jay County swimmers came away with three victories as the team won 16 of 40 individual events and 4 of 10 relays.
Emilee Miller controlled the 9-10-year-old girls division, taking first in the long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley. Cori Vormohr grabbed her three wins in the 13-14-year-old girls division in the long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley.
Aaron Hudson added wins in the 11-12-year-old boys butterfly and individual medley, and Derrick Lee was first in the 15-and-older boys long freestyle and individual medley.
Adding single wins for Jay County were Sok Vormohr, Mary Hudson, Wiley Young, Alysha Miller, Sam Miller and Ashley Imel.
The team will swim at Centerville tonight at 6 p.m. before returning home to take on Randolph County Thursday. Team pictures will be taken prior to Thursday’s meet at 5:10 p.m.

After its first five games, the Jay-Randolph Bulldogs American Legion baseball team is still looking for its first win.
Jay-Randolph dropped a 12-2 decision to Muncie last week, lost a pair to Beech Grove Saturday, the dropped both ends of a double header — 5-2 and 11-0 — to Kokomo Sunday.
Jay County graduate Heath Williams has been the only consistent offensive threat for the Bulldogs.
Williams was 2-for-2 and scored both runs in game one versus Kokomo, and added two more hits in the second game. He finished 1-for-2 against Muncie
Jay County junior Cory Locke also went 1-for-2 against Muncie.
The only Bulldog hitter other than Williams to post more than a single hit in a game was Monroe Central graduate Noah Tharp. He finished 3-for-4 with two runs against Muncie.[[In-content Ad]]
