Champ outstanding, but still falls short (09/26/05)

KENDALLVILLE — Trisha Champ played great golf Saturday.
The sophomore was one stroke off her best nine-hole round on the front nine. She shot her season average on the back.
It still left her short of the state berth she had hoped for all season.
Jay County’s Champ shot an 8-over-par 79 for the day, but that score still left her short of a trip to the state meet at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course by seven strokes.
She was one of 16 golfers — from 13 different teams — to shoot in the 70s at the East Noble Regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links. Her score was 11 strokes better than last week’s 90 in the sectional at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Bluffton and 13 better than she scored at last year’s regional at Noble Hawk.
Jennifer Nagle of DeKalb earned medalist honors as she defeated Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger’s Sarah Prascsak in a playoff after the both shot 71.
DeKalb won the title with a score of 319. Warsaw was second at 326 and Homestead took third at 328.
The top three teams earned state berths, as did the top three players who were not on an advancing team. They were Prascsak, Concord’s Jessica Dooley (72) and Lyndsay McBride of Northrdige (72).
Champ had just one “other” on her day as she played the par-3 17th hole at 4-over par. Everything else was excellent.
She had two birdies on the back nine, the first on the 262-yard, par-4 10th hole and the second on the 157-yard, par-3 15th. She also had nine pars on the day, including a pair to open the round and four straight on holes five through eight.[[In-content Ad]]
