Champ places fourth at Central Invitational (08/10/05)
JCHS girls golf
YORKTOWN — Trisha Champ didn’t quite match her Monday performance. But she came close.
Champ, who tied the Jay County school record with a 2-over-par round at the Marion Invitational Monday, shot a 3-over-par 39 on the front nine at the Muncie Central Invitational Tuesday. She finished in a tie for fourth overall with Monroe Central’s Rachel Dragoo as they both shot 84 at The Players Club.
The Patriot girls golf team did not post a team score, as it had just three golfers in action. Richmond cruised in the eight-team event with a 335. Yorktown was 19 strokes back in second place.
Champ opened the invitational with a par, but was 4-over through the first five holes before catching fire.
The sophomore got going with back-to-back pars on the 270-yard, par-4 sixth hole and the 77-yard, par-3 seventh. She pulled back to 3-under with her lone birdie on the day on the 267-yard, par-4 eighth hole before finishing with a par on No. 9.
Champ added three pars, for a total of eight, on the back nine on the way to her 84. That score is 24 strokes better than she posted at the Muncie Central Invitational a year ago.
Junior Ashley Bunch carded the No. 2 score for the Patriots, also knocking off a big chunk from her 2004 score. She shot a 129 for a 17-stroke improvement.
Ashley’s freshman sister, Alex, scored a 157 in her second varsity match.[[In-content Ad]]
