Champ sets school record (08/02/06)

PARKER CITY - Coach Tom Ferguson didn't expect records to stand up this year. It took just two matches for Trisha Champ to prove him correct.
Champ shot a 1-over-par 37, a Jay County school record for nine holes, to earn medalist honors at the Monroe Central Invitational Tuesday.
The Patriots finished fifth with a score of 216, but were only six strokes out of second place in a tightly-packed six-team field. Delta won with a score of 191 at Hickory Hills Golf Club, followed by Winchester (207), Shenandoah (207), Muncie Central (212).
Champ had an outstanding day as the invitational was shortened because of excessive heat for the second straight year. She opened with a par and had just two bogeys as she easily finished ahead of second-place Erin Friend (40) of Winchester.
After pars on six of the first seven holes, Champ highlighted her round on the par-3 eighth. From about 30 yards above the hole, the junior chipped downhill and rolled the ball in for a birdie.
The seniors followed Champ as Ashley Bunch scored a 56, and Miranda Denney had a pair of pars on the way to a 57. Rachel Osterholt rounded out the team score with a 63, and Alex Bunch finished at 71.[[In-content Ad]]
