PORTLAND — The East Jay seventh grade girls basketball team stayed perfect Tuesday, topping Hartford City 34-20. The eighth grade team also won, 33-18, to climb above .500.
The seventh grade Chiefs, who improved to 7-0 on the year, were led by Lindsey Wellman’s 12 points. Pazia Speed and Shelby Gierhart each added five points.
Kristi Morningstar had eight points for the eighth graders, who are now 4-3. April Roser, Brittany Mann, Gina Muhlenkamp and Mackenzie Loy each chipped in four points.

FORT RECOVERY — The bid for an undefeated season came to an end Tuesday for the Fort Recovery eighth grade girls basketball team as it took a 34-28 loss to the Delphos St. Johns Blue Jays. The seventh grade Indians topped St. Johns 27-24.
The Tribe eighth graders (10-1) trailed for much of the night, going down by two after one quarter and 14-9 at the half. They kept the game close throughout, but couldn’t keep their perfect record in tact.
Anne Koesters paced the Indians with 11 points. Joanna Snyder had seven, and Kinsey Wenning added four.
Fort Recovery’s seventh grade team jumped out to a 12-4 lead and pushed the advantage to nine points at the half. They were outscored 9-3 in the final period, but still held on for the victory.
Josie Guggenbiller had a big game in the win, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Nicole Pottkotter added six points.
Kelsey Brockman had nine rebounds, and Emily May finished with seven.

Tickets to Fort Recovery’s boys basketball game at Delphos St. Johns Friday will go on sale Thursday.
They will be sold in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:15 a.m.
Advance tickets are $4 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the door will be $5.[[In-content Ad]]
