Chief 8th grade tops Northside (09/30/05)

MUNCIE — East Jay got a split result on the gridiron Thursday.
The Chief eighth graders scored a 20-8 victory over Muncie Northside, but the seventh grade team suffered a 38-0 shutout.
Northside had a chance to comeback against East Jay in the eighth grade game, scoring early in the fourth quarter after an interception to cut its deficit to 12-8. However, Ben Vance got some great blocking and returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for the game-sealing touchdown.
Vance also scored on an 18-yard run in the second quarter. He finished with 102 yards on 11 carries. Adam Coats had the other East Jay score on a 1-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the first half.
Tyler Freyburger paced the defense with 12 tackles. Cody Bullard and Scott Houston each had an interception.
East Jay’s seventh graders struggled to move the ball for the second straight game and gave up 16 points in each of the first two quarters.
Brendan Reed finished 3-for-4 passing for 34 yards, with Drew Houck, Neil Fennig and Ike Bruggeman each recording a reception. Bruggeman had seven tackles, and Brad Eldridge added five.[[In-content Ad]]
