Chief girls top Bears (05/03/07)
EJMS track
Jordan McMillan's three victories were more than the Golden Bears earned as a team. Garrett Krieg had two wins, but needed just a bit more help.
The East Jay Middle School girls track team won nine events, including McMillan's three, and clobbered Monroe Central 70-30. The boys half of the meet finished in a dead heat at 50-50.
McMillan turned in another impressive effort, winning the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches and the long jump at 12 feet, 8 inches. She took the top spot in the 200-meter dash by more than a second in 29.33 seconds.
Krieg's pair of victories led the boys team, which slipped into the tie as it was outscored 17-1 in the throwing events. He finished in the top spot in the 100 dash in 12.2 and the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 10 inches.
Alisha Grider added a third field-event victory for the girls with a toss of 67 feet, 91/2 inches in the discus, and Ranae Ray won the hurdles in 18.33.
Laura Castillo took first in the 400 dash (1-minute, 12.37 seconds), Katie Butcher won the 800 run (2:49.96) and Leah Wellman was victorious in the 1,600 run (6:14.08).
Joining Krieg with victories for the EJMS boys were Joe Imel at 27.64 in the 200 dash and Austin Bentz with a time of 5:59 in the 1,600 run.
East Jay's B teams each scored big wins, the girls by a 72-24 count and the boys by a 72-28 final.[[In-content Ad]]
