DUNKIRK - The East Jay Middle School wrestling team knocked off host West Jay 75-18 Thursday. The Chiefs picked up nine pins in the victory, while each of the Eagles' three triumphs came by way of pins.
Four of the EJMS pins came in less than a minute, with Mitchell Bruggeman (85) and Brentt Lewis (175) each finishing their matches in 32 seconds. Michael Bruggeman (125) finished his match in 33 seconds, and Conner Ray (90) needed just 44 seconds for his victory.
West Jay turned in the quickest pin, with Coby Green (100) winning in just 24 seconds. Other pins for the Eagles came from Bryce Bantz (110) and Jesse Finnerty (120).
The Chiefs added pins from Preston Keen (135), Zach Metcalf (145), Hunter Gillette (152), Ryan Tinkham (160) and Eric Hemmelgarn (HWT). They also got a major decision from Matt Blackford (95).
Metcalf extended his season record to a perfect 14-0 for East Jay (8-3). Hemmelgarn is 13-1, and Michael Bruggeman, Abbott and Ray are all 12-2.
Eagle 6th graders fall
MONTPELIER - West Jay's sixth grade boys basketball team closed its season with a 31-30 loss to Montpelier.
Joey Springer had 15 points for the Eagles, who finished with a 4-3 record.
Daniel Meranda added 11 points.
