East Jay Middle School's wrestling team earned another victory Monday, topping Winchester Driver 63-22.

D.J. Teeple paced the Chiefs as he made quick work in the 125-pound match, winning in just 11 seconds. Chandler Stout (105) and Vince Garcia (135) added pins in 14 and 23 seconds respectively.

Other pins for East Jay came from Brandon Poore (95), Nick Leonhard (110), Andre Duke (152) and Micah Boyer (160). Dyllan Derrickson (115) added an 8-5 victory.

Preston Overholser (100) won in 27 seconds for the junior varsity team. Other JV winners were Ed Muhlenkamp (95), Tanner Schlichter (105) and Kane Bray (145).

Fort splits with MV

UNION CITY, Ohio - Fort Recovery's eighth grade girls basketball team pushed to an 11-3, first-quarter lead Monday en route to a 44-19 victory over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. But the seventh graders were shut out in the opening period in a 25-16 defeat.

Holly Brunswick and Kendra Brunswick each scored nine points for the eighth grade Indians, who were up 20-9 at the half and racked up 15 more points in the third quarter. Nicole Dilworth followed with eight points.

The Tribe seventh graders trailed 7-0 after the opening period and never recovered. Becca Tobe finished with five points, and Danielle Bihn and Michelle Evers each had four.

Jay still 13th in voting

INDIANAPOLIS - Jay County didn't move in this week's high school boys basketball poll.

The Patriots remained 13th in the Class 3A voting by The Associated Press, finishing this week with 21 points. They had 13 points last week.

Defending state champion New Castle (14-1) continued to hold the No. 1 spot with Edgewood (12-0) second. Vincennes (10-5) finished 10th with 28 points, and Washington and Fort Wayne Dwenger were just ahead of Jay County with 22 apiece.

Jay County (9-3) defeated Winchester 51-47 in its last outing and will look for a third win in a row when it visits Anderson Highland Friday night.

Chiefs roll to 4-0

The East Jay Middle School sixth grade boys and girls basketball teams each pushed their perfect records to 4-0 Monday with wins over St. Joe. The boys team scored a 53-42 triumph while the girls team eked out a 22-20 victory.

Brock McFarland paced the boys team with 20 points. Cade Price also went deep into double figures with 15.

Emily Devoe totaled five points, nine steals and three assists, all team highs for the girls. Gabie Cross added five points and six rebounds, and Makayla Jobe also grabbed six boards.

Brandon Ferner scored 12 points to lead the boys B team to a 30-17 win.[[In-content Ad]]
